UK biofuel supply rises to 2.4 billion litres through October but SAF adoption lags

Provisional data released by the Department for Transport (DfT) shows that verified renewable fuels supplied to the UK reached 2.4 billion litres in the first ten months of 2025. Biofuels now account for around 6.8% of the UK’s total transport fuel supply, underlining continued growth in supply and demand, according to data from S&P Global.

Within the renewable segment, bioethanol dominates, with approximately 1.1 billion litres supplied, followed by biodiesel (519 million litres) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) at 408 million litres.

However, supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) under the new SAF Mandate remains limited.
