Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport to use biofuels in passenger transport vehicles

The project, which is the result of a protocol signed between the handling company Portway, the energy company PRIO and Beyond Fuels, is scheduled to start in 2024, with an initial duration of two years, and will make it possible to “reduce CO2 emissions by 1,000 tonnes”.

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport will start using biofuels in heavy passenger transport vehicles, a measure that is the result of a protocol signed between the handling company Portway, part of the VINCI Group, the energy company PRIO and Beyond Fuels, which will make it possible to “reduce CO2 emissions by 1,000 tonnes over the next two years”.

“This collaboration protocol represents a significant step towards the decarbonisation of airport transport at Porto airport. The project is scheduled to start in 2024, with an initial duration of two years. During this period, more than 400,000 litres of PRIO’s Zero Diesel B100 – a 100% renewable fuel – will be consumed, which will be reflected in a reduction of around 1,000 TON of CO2eq in the space of two years,” the partner companies said in a statement.

The management and implementation of this protocol at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is the responsibility of Beyond Fuels, a company specialising in circular economy and fleet decarbonisation projects.
